                  What is the function of the ignition coil?

                  The function of ignition coil:
                    Additional resistors in low voltage circuit of ignition coil have the function of balancing high voltage sparks. When the current passes through the primary coil, a magnetic field will be generated. It will take a period of time from the beginning of the current to the saturation of the magnetic field (i.e., to the highest degree). When the engine is at low speed, the magnetic field can be saturated. When the engine is at high speed, the magnetic field can not be saturated because of the shortening of time. The secondary voltage generated will be insufficient and the spark will be weakened.
                  Principle:
                    Usually there are two sets of coils in the ignition coil, the primary coil and the secondary coil. The primary coil is made of coarser enameled wire, usually about 0.5-1 mm enameled wire, about 200-500 turns; the secondary coil is made of finer enameled wire, usually about 0.1 mm enameled wire, about 15,000-25,000 turns. One end of the primary coil is connected with the low voltage power supply (+) on the vehicle, and the other end is connected with the switch device (power breaker). One end of the secondary coil is connected with the primary coil, and the other end is connected with the output end of the high-voltage line to output high-voltage electricity.
                  The reason why ignition coil can turn low voltage into high voltage is that it has the same form as ordinary transformer and the turn ratio of primary coil is larger than that of secondary coil. But the working mode of ignition coil is different from that of ordinary transformer. The working frequency of ordinary transformer is fixed 50Hz, which is also called power frequency transformer. The ignition coil works in the form of pulse, which can be regarded as pulse transformer. It stores and releases energy repeatedly at different frequencies according to the different speed of engine.
                    When the primary coil is connected to the power supply, a strong magnetic field is generated around the increase of the current, and the magnetic energy is stored in the iron core. When the switch device disconnects the primary coil circuit, the magnetic field of the primary coil decreases rapidly, and the secondary coil will induce a high voltage. The faster the magnetic field of the primary coil disappears, the greater the current at the moment of current disconnection, and the larger the turn ratio of the two coils, the higher the voltage induced by the secondary coil.
                  Coil types:
                    The ignition coil can be divided into two types according to the magnetic circuit: open magnetic coil and closed magnetic coil. The traditional ignition coil is an open-magnet type. Its core is made of 0.3mm silicon steel sheet, and the secondary and primary coils are wound around the core. In the closed magnetic type, the primary coil is wound with a core similar to the shape of III, and the secondary coil is wound outside. The magnetic line consists of the core to form a closed magnetic circuit. The advantages of closed magnetic ignition coil are less leakage, less energy loss and smaller volume. Therefore, closed magnetic ignition coil is widely used in electronic ignition system.
                  Matters needing attention:
                    If the ignition coil is used improperly, it will cause damage to the ignition coil. Therefore, the following points should be noted: prevent the ignition coil from heating or dampness; do not turn on the ignition switch when the engine is not running; check, clean and tighten the circuit joints frequently to avoid short circuit or lapping iron; control the performance of the engine to prevent excessive voltage; and spark plug. Do not "hang fire" for a long time; the moisture on the ignition coil can only be wiped with cloth, and must not be baked with fire, otherwise the ignition coil will be damaged.
